Three Rock Cats Selected for 2010 E.L. All-Star Game
New Britain, CT - The
New Britain Rock Cats were notified today that three of their players -
RHP Kyle Gibson, RHP
Deolis Guerra, and OF
Ben Revere - have been selected to play in the 2010 Eastern
League All-Star
Game scheduled for Wednesday, July 14th at Metro
Bank Park in
Harrisburg, PA. Moreover, the three starry New Britain players will be
joined
in the dugout by three other familiar
faces as Rock Cats' Manager, Jeff Smith,
and his Hardware City Coaching Staff of Stu
Cliburn (Pitching) and Rudy
Hernandez (Hitting) will also be there to run the Eastern
Division show.
The New Britain staff was selected by virtue of the Rock Cats
participation in
the Division's 2009 Postseason.
Players appearing in the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game were chosen by a voting process consisting of League Managers, members of the Media, and Fans. Each Divisional Roster is comprised of 24 Players - with half that number selected by fans who voted on either hard copy ballots in the ball park, or electronically on the Eastern League website. The three participating Rock Cats players are:
RHP Kyle Gibson,
the Greenfield, IN resident who was selected by Minnesota out of the
University
of Missouri in the 1st Round (22nd
overall) of the 2009
Draft, is one of ten Pitchers named to the Eastern Division squad. The
6'6"/210-pound hurler showed great composure in his first exposure to
Double-A
batters, and racked up three impressive Wins in his first three starts
in a New
Britain uniform. The 22-year-old currently stands at 4-3/4.21 after
eight 2010
starts for the Rock Cats. His K/BB ratio is an impressive 38/12.
RHP Deolis Guerra, the 21-year-old Venezuela resident who the Twins acquired as part of the 2008 deal that sent LHP Johan Santana to the New York Mets, will be an Eastern League All-Star in his first full season at the Double-A level. The 6'5"/221-pound Guerra has been much better than his 1-3 record might indicate. The big righty has a dynamic mix of mound offerings; he has made 9 starts for the 2010 Rock Cats, and in 56 1/3 innings of work owns a 3.20 ERA.
OF Ben Revere, the 22-year-old resident of Richmond, KY who Minnesota took with their 1st Round pick (28th overall) in the 2007 Draft, will be an Eastern League All-Star in his rookie campaign at the Double-A level. The 5'9"/175-pound Outfielder, the Minnesota organization's 2009 Player of the Year, currently sits in the League's Top 10 Hitters with a team-leading .309 Batting Average. An excellent defensive Outfielder, the speedy Revere is also among the League's leaders in Stolen Bases with 24.
Gibson and Revere each proved to be enormously popular with Eastern League fans; their selections were fueled by large numbers of fan votes. Deolis Guerra made a strong impression on opposing Managers and Media members across the League as their ballots were instrumental in making him a 2010 EL All-Star.
