Express Prepare for Historic Opening Day
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Dell Diamond will be the place to be this time next week as the Round Rock Express host their season opener on Friday, April 17. The fun continues throughout the weekend as the Express continues their series against the Memphis Redbirds.
HISTORY IS MADE AT DELL DIAMOND: Nolan Ryan's National Baseball Hall of Fame plaque will be leaving Cooperstown for the first time ever and will head to Dell Diamond. Fans will be allowed to take photographs with the plaque on Friday, April 17 from 5:30-8:30 and Saturday, April 18 from 4:30-7:30.
HOMETOWN FIRST PITCH: The Express are pleased to announce that our very own, Brian Gordon will be throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day. A graduate of Round Rock High School, Brian played professionally as an outfielder and a pitcher. His career began in 1997 with the AZL Diamondbacks and he has seen MLB action as a member of the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees. Brian was the first pitcher to use a synthetic glove in a major league game.
MALFORD MILLIGAN NATIONAL ANTHEM: Taylor, TX native and "The Voice" contestant, Malford Milligan, will be providing the vocals for the National Anthem on Opening Day. Milligan will dazzle the Dell Diamond crowd with his vocals and will be performing a post-game set in the Intel Club. Fans can enjoy the Intel Club following the game for free.
GIVEAWAY GALORE: On Friday, April 17, the first 5,000 fans will receive the official 2015 Schedule Magnet courtesy of Budweiser. Budweiser will also be putting on a Brew Review at the ballpark as well as Friday Fireworks after the game.
LAURIE HADLEY FIRST PITCH: Recently named Round Rock city manager Laurie Hadley will show off her pitching talents on Saturday night with a memorable first pitch. Hadley was hired in 2011 as an assistant city manager in Round Rock before be officially announced as the city manager in January of 2015.
EXPRESS CAP GIVEAWAY: The Nyle Maxwell Family of Dealerships will be providing the first 2,500 fans with Express caps in honor of Opening Weekend.
BOB SCHNEIDER ROCKS DELL DIAMOND: On Saturday, April 18, Bob Schneider will be performing live at Dell Diamond after the game to kick off the St. David's Summer Concert Series presented by Dell. Tickets to the game will also act as tickets for the concert.
KIDS CLUB RUNS THE SHOW: Kids Club Runs the Show! is back for another season. Junior Sluggers Kids Club members will be in charge for the day and will get to interact with Express staff. Kids will also get to run the bases after the game and there will also be inflatables and the Kiddie Train.
Opening Day will be a joyful experience for all in attendance this year. Get out your gloves and Express jerseys because baseball is on its way back to Round Rock.
