Behind a four run 4th and Brandon Beachy, Braves win 3rd straight
Hoover, AL- In the second game of a six game series, the Mississippi Braves once again beat the Birmingham Barons. Brandon Beachy allowed just two hits in six innings as he turned in another streamline performance as a starter. The Braves send nine men to the plate in the 5th inning and would score four runs, which was plenty to beat lowly Birmingham.
The Barons scored first and took a 1-0 lead after one inning. Following the only walks given up by Beachy for the game, Christian Marrero doubled down the right field line to make the score 1-0. That would be the only run the Barons scored in the inning and the game as well.
The Braves would break through against Baron starter, Jacob Rasner, in the 5th inning. Cody Johnson, Jesus Sucre, Luis Bolivar, Eric Duncan and Mauro Gomez all delivered singles. With that and the help of two errors, the Braves score four times to take a 4-1 lead after five innings.
The final Braves run came in the 9th inning. Jesus Sucre doubled to start the inning and would be driven in on a single from Antoan Richardson. The Braves bullpen close the door with Tommy Palica, Michael Broadway and Jaye Chapman all working one inning a piece following six strong innings from the starter, Beachy.
Final score, Braves 5, Barons 1.
Tomorrow, the Braves and Barons will engage in a double-header. In game one, the Braves will throw RHP Tim Gustafson (recently sent down from AAA-Gwinnett) vs. RHP Brandon Hynick (3-0; 2.23). Game two will feature LHP Richard Sullivan (1-7; 6.13) vs. RHP Ricky Brooks (0-3; 4.71). The Braves have won three games in a row for the fourth time this season, a win in game one tomorrow would be the fourth in a row, which would be the longest winning streak of the season for Mississippi.
