Nuts Club 15 Hits in 11-3 Win

Bakersfield, CA. - Thanks in part to five errors, the Modesto Nuts scored seven unearned runs in their 11-3 win against the Bakersfield Blaze on Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

In the fourth, a two-out error opened the door for the Nuts (2-3). It extended the frame and gave Zach Osborne a chance at the plate. The Nuts' shortstop delivered a two-run single before he scored on Raimel Tapia's two-run double. Tapia ended with three hits and two RBI.

In the fifth, two Blaze (1-4) errors aided the Nuts again. Ryan McMahon had a RBI single. Dillon Thomas added a RBI single as well. Thomas recorded three hits and crushed a three-run homer to right in the ninth. The lefty slugger recorded four RBI on the night.

Jake Zokan (L, 0-1) was the tough-luck loser for the Blaze. The southpaw tossed four innings but gave up eight hits and allowed six runs, only one of which was earned.

In the sixth, the Nuts took advantage of the fourth error of the game when Michael Benjamin, Jr recorded a RBI single to drive in Osborne who had reached on the error. With two outs, and the inning extended because of the error, Correlle Prime ripped a RBI single. Prime finished 3-for-5 with a RBI, a double and two runs scored.

Grahamm Wiest (W, 1-0) was good in his first start for the Nuts. After getting a double play ball to come out of a second-inning, bases-loaded jam unscathed, the righty settled in and worked five scoreless innings with four hits, two walks and one strikeout.

Shane Broyles tossed two scoreless innings out of the Nuts' bullpen, struck out three and allowed just one infield single. 

The middle game of the three-game series against the Blaze starts at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday night. The Nuts will send Antonio Senzatela to the mound.
