Marshall, Murton Added to Roster

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced two roster moves Thursday. First, Charleston RiverDogs infielder Luke Murton has been activated from the DL and right-handed pitcher Dickson Marquez has been transferred to Short Season Staten Island. Also, right-handed pitcher Brett Marshall has been added to the Charleston roster and outfielder Justin Milo has been transferred from Charleston to Short Season Staten Island.

 

Murton, a 6'4" first baseman/designated hitter and 2010 SAL Southern Division All-Star, played in 60 games in the first half and sported a .291 average with eight home runs, 23 doubles and 37 RBI. He ranks in the top five in the SAL in doubles and extra base hits.   

 

The McDonough, Ga. native was selected by the New York Yankees in the 19th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and prepped at Eagle's Landing (Ga.) High School, where he earned Henry County player of the year honors as a senior.  His older brother, Matt, is a former Georgia Tech standout who was a 2003 first-round pick of the Boston Red Sox and was part of Boston's trade to the Chicago Cubs that involved Nomar Garciaparra.

 

Marquez, a San Cristobal, Dominican Republic native, has posted a 0-4 record in 14 appearances this season with the RiverDogs. The 6'2" hurler surrendered 24 hits and 17 earned runs, with ten walks, 10 punchouts and one save in a total of 18.2 innings of work.

 

Marshall, a Highlands, Tex. native, started 17 games in 2009 with the RiverDogs, posting a 3-6 record with a 5.56 ERA, surrendering 98 hits and 54 earned runs, with 37 walks and 60 strikeouts. The right-hander is schedule to start tonight's contest vs. the Augusta GreenJackets.

 

Milo, a 37th round pick by the Yankees in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, has played in 13 games with the RiverDogs thus far this season, batting .227 with seven runs, two RBI and two stolen bases.

 

Charleston begins a four-game homestand on Sun., July 4 against South Atlantic League Southern Division rivals the Asheville Tourists, the Single-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
