April 15, 2015

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls had to battle the rain and the Norfolk Tides in their home-opener, as the Bulls dropped an 8-0 decision to the Tides Wednesday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Kicking off the ballpark's 20th anniversary season, the Tides (4-3) led off the game with a single and a two-run homer by Chris Parmelee after a 2 hour and 39 minute rain delay. Norfolk didn't look back, adding two runs in the third behind four singles and a walk, and three in the fourth behind a quartet of base hits and an error. The visitors tacked on the contest's final run in the ninth on an RBI single from former Bull Jayson Nix.

Right-hander Mike Wright (1-0) earned the victory with six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four. Durham starter Everett Teaford (0-1) suffered loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits in four innings. The Bulls batters were held to four hits on the day and were shut out for the second time in three games.

Ryan Brett led off the game with a single for Durham (3-4), while Vince Belnome, Jake Elmore and Joey Butler added singles as 8,297 fans braved the weather to kick off the 2015 season at the DBAP.
