New Mascot Makes First Appearance as Ambassador
SOUTH BEND, Indiana (April 16, 2015) - Stu, the South Bend Cubs mascot, will make his first goodwill appearance in the community this Friday as he visits the chemotherapy room at Michiana Hematology Oncology Advanced Center for Cancer Care in Mishawaka. Stu will arrive at 10 a.m. to meet with patients there.
Stu made his public debut at last Thursday's home opener for the South Bend Cubs and has spent the week getting to know fans at each home game. Team leaders say he will be a highly visible member of the community.
"Any time there's an opportunity for Stu to be a part of a community event, or visit an organization, we want him there," said Joe Hart, President of the South Bend Cubs. "A mascot is so much more than being the team's biggest cheerleader; it's also about being a visible, positive influence in the community. Stu not only represents the South Bend Cubs but will be Michiana's greatest ambassador."
"We're excited to have Stu here," said Gena Oake, Clinical Operations Manager at Michiana Hematology Oncology. "As caregivers, we're touched when others understand the need for a bright spot in what is typically a long, tiring day for patients in our chemo room. We're looking forward to meeting Stu."
The media is invited to join Stu at Michiana Hematology Oncology on Friday. For inquiries about the visit at Michiana Hematology Oncology, contact Gena Oake at (574) 237-1328. For Stu's upcoming community appearances, contact Sarah Leo at 574-235-9988.
