Hawksworth, Marti steer Cardinals

Blake Hawksworth tossed seven strong innings and Amaury Marti drove in three runs as visiting Springfield downed Frisco, 5-1, on Thursday.

Hawksworth (3-2) allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out four. The 23-year-old right-hander matched his longest outing of the season for the Cardinals (22-32) and lowered his ERA to 3.41.

Carmen Cali worked around a walk in the eighth before Mark Worrell gave up a single and struck out the side in the ninth.

Marti knocked in a run with a groundout in the fourth and slugged a two-run homer, his sixth, in the eighth. Cody Haerther went 3-for-4 with an RBI double to help the Cardinals win for the third time in 11 games.

RoughRiders starter Luis Mendoza (1-2) surrendered three runs on seven hits over seven frames, striking out two and walking one.

Jeff Fasano slugged his eighth homer in the second for Frisco (29-25). --Christopher Heine/MLB.com
