Nuts Strikeout 16 Times in 7-1 Loss
Modesto, CA. - For the second straight night, the Modesto Nuts bats were quiet in their 7-1 loss against the Visalia Rawhide on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.
Rawhide (10-3) starter Blayne Weller (W, 1-1) struck out 11 in six innings of work giving up just a RBI double to Wilfredo Rodriguez. Overall the Rawhide pitching staff struck out 16 Nuts (5-8).
Konner Wade (L, 1-1) got knocked around early giving up five runs in the first two innings. A bloop single by Kevin Cron and a RBI infield single put the Rawhide on the board first. Then a sac fly and a two-run homer by Daniel Palka opened up the early lead.
After the Nuts scored in the fourth, they put just two more runners in scoring position in the loss.
The Nuts bullpen threw well allowing just one run in four innings of work. Shane Broyles tossed three innings and struck out four allowing just two hits. Carlos Estevez had one scoreless inning out of the 'pen.
The Nuts will try to avoid the sweep against the Rawhide on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Johendi Jiminian will throw for the Nuts.
