April 22, 2015

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - A close play at third base proved crucial in the top of the 11th inning as the JetHawks defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-6 Tuesday night at LoanMart Field.

After leading off the 11th with a double, Chan-Jong Moon moved to third on a grounder to Rancho Cucamonga (9-4) third baseman Brandon Trinkwon and was called safe on a close play. That set the table for Chase McDonald, who drove Moon home with a single to center field.

Gonzalo Sanudo (1-0) received the win after tossing two scoreless innings of relief for Lancaster (7-6). Randy Fontanez (1-2) took the loss, allowing the winning run along with three hits over his three innings pitched.

The JetHawks had carried a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, but Frederick Tiburcio yielded a game-tying, two-run homer to Trinkwon to send the game into extra innings.

Moon drew a one-out walk in the first inning and promptly stole second base. A.J. Reed drove Moon home with an RBI single, giving the Lancaster the early 1-0 lead.

The Quakes answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. Clay Bellinger led off with a single, and after two walks loaded the bases, Tyler Ogle reached on a fielding error, scoring Bellinger. Delvis Morales then grounded into a double play, scoring Joey Curletta.

In the top of the third inning, the JetHawks retook the lead. Jobduan Morales led off with a walk, and Brett Phillips and Moon followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases with none out. J.D. Davis and A.J. Reed then lifted consecutive sacrifice flies to score Morales and Phillips, respectively, putting the JetHawks in a 3-2 lead.

Morales added an RBI single in the sixth, and a fielder's choice grounder scored James Ramsay to extend Lancaster's lead to 5-2.

Rancho Cucamonga scored a run each in the sixth and seventh innings on a throwing error and a Jarek Cunningham RBI single, respectively, to make the score 5-4.

The JetHawks will face the Quakes in the rubber game of the series Wednesday at LoanMart Field. Troy Scribner (0-0, 5.19) will start for Lancaster, and Rancho Cucamonga will send Scott Barlow (1-0, 3.60) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
