Curve Partner Up with UPMC Altoona Breast Health Center for Pink the Park Night on August 8
CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve will be hosting a Pink the Park Night at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Saturday, August 8 in conjunction with UPMC Altoona Breast Health Center with the Curve turning the ballpark pink to help raise awareness and funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Blair County.
On the field, the team will be wearing pink jerseys (see attached photo) that will be auctioned off during the game with all the proceeds from the sale of the jerseys going towards the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, which supports not only groundbreaking research initiatives, but much needed programs and services for those battling breast cancer and living within our communities. These jerseys will also carry the names of 200 cancer survivors on them and will be imprinted in the white portion of the jerseys (see photo attached to this release).
"We've been proud to work with the American Cancer Society since our inception and with their Making Strides initiative for several years," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan. "Thanks to UPMC Altoona, we'll be able to enhance our efforts with this special night including the unique jerseys. We're looking forward to a truly meaningful event during which Curve fans, players, coaches, front office staff, and game day employees can all take part. Let's Pink the Park!"
Running through May 29, fans will be able to put the name of anyone who has battled breast cancer on the jersey for a $30 donation that goes directly to Making Strides. This opportunity will be open to the first 200 names that are submitted. Those that submit a name to be placed on the jersey will also receive a t-shirt to wear for the night that will feature each of the 200 names that also appear on the jersey.
Prior to the game on the 8th, the Curve will welcome down all women in attendance that are survivors or are currently fighting breast cancer down on to the field to take part in a pregame ceremony.
All fans in attendance that night are encouraged to wear pink and the Curve will also be selling limited-edition Pink the Park Night Curve t-shirts with all proceeds from those shirts also going to Making Strides.
