Brewers Reliever Jim Henderson Added for MLB Rehab

The 32-year-old Henderson is 8-9 with a 3.44 ERA in 111 career games for Milwaukee

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the following roster move that affects the Biloxi Shuckers roster prior to tonight's 6:05 p.m. CST game against the Jacksonville Suns at Bragan Field and The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Jim Henderson's rehab assignment has been transferred to Biloxi from Advanced-A Brevard County. The addition of Henderson does not count against the Shuckers 25-man roster limit.

Henderson, 32, made two appearances, one start for the Brevard County Manatees, going 0-1 and allowing a run on two hits, walking one and striking out three in the rehab outings. Henderson started Brevard's game on April 17 against Dunedin, tossing a scoreless first inning, then came in during the sixth inning of their contest with Lakeland on Tuesday, suffering the loss after giving up a home run and two hits.

Henderson started the season on the 15-day disabled list with right-shoulder inflammation. In 2014, he had season-ending surgery on his right shoulder after being placed on the 60-day disabled list on July 21. The native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada went 2-1 with a 7.15 ERA in 14 relief appearances for Milwaukee last season and made his last appearance of the season on June 1 at Cincinnati and allowed 5 runs in two-thirds of an inning. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 2 with right shoulder inflammation. He was sent to Double-A Huntsville on rehab assignment on May 22 and was returned from the rehab on May 26, but remained on the disabled list. He also had rehab stints at Rookie Arizona, Double-Huntsville and Triple-A Nashville in July.

He made his Major League debut on July 26, 2012 vs. Washington and his first career strikeout was Roger Bernadina. Henderson notched his first Major League save on August 7 vs. Cincinnati an recorded his first Major League win on October 2 vs. San Diego. In 111 career games for the Brewers from 2012-2014, Henderson is 8-9, with a 3.44 ERA, posting 137 strikeouts in 102 innings pitched and 31 saves.

Henderson graduated from Central Memorial High School, where he played baseball and basketball and then attended Tennessee Wesleyan College where he was inducted into its Hall of Fame in January, 2014. He was originally selected by Montreal in the 26th round of the 2003 draft, was selected by the Chicago Cubs, from Washington in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft in 2006. Henderson was released by the Cubs in 2009 and signed as a free agent with the Brewers on April 1, 2009.

No stranger to the Southern League, the right-hander has appeared in 122 league games, with Tennessee (07-08) and Huntsville (09-11, 13) going 13-10, with a 3.23 ERA and 23 saves in 167 innings. 2013 was his best season with the Brewers, going 5-5 with a 2.70 ERA and 28 saves in 61 relief appearances. He was named to his first career Opening Day roster and spent his first full season in the majors. He held opponents to a .200 batting average as he struck out 75 batters and allowed just 44 hits in 60 innings pitched. He broke the franchise rookie record for saves (28) and was 28-for-32 in save opportunities (87.5%). Henderson was the winning pitcher on Opening Day vs. Colorado in 2013 and saved both games of a doubleheader on July 30 at Chicago (NL). He was the first Brewer to accomplish that feat since Mike DeJean on June 5, 2003 at New York (NL)

The Shuckers roster remains at 25 players with one on the temporary inactive list and one MLB rehab. MLB rehab assignments do not count against the clubs 25-man roster limit.
