Redbirds Rock Express, 6-3

Narveson picks up team-best seventh win

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis bounced back from a disappointing road trip with a 6-3 win over Round Rock Saturday night at AutoZone Park in front of 11,202 fans.

The Redbirds took control of the game with three runs in the fifth inning. Mike Rose delivered the big hit with a two-RBI double to score Junior Spivey and Derek Wathan. One batter later Michel Hernandez singled to score Rose from second. John Nelson and John Rodriguez each hit home runs, and four different 'Birds had multi-hit games.

Former Redbird Joe McEwing led the way for the Express with a pair of hits. Charlton Jimerson and Bryan Gordon each went deep for Round Rock.

Chris Narveson (7-4) earned his seventh win of the season with five solid innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Three Memphis hurlers combined to fan 13 Express batters. Phillip Barzilla (7-4) took the loss for Round Rock after allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits in 4.2 innings. Andy Cavazos tossed two scoreless innings to earn his third save of the year.

The Redbirds will host Round Rock tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Zeke Astacio (5-3) is scheduled to start for the Express and face Memphis' Ricardo Rodriguez (2-1).
