51s Take Doubleheader From Isotopes
NEED TO KNOW: The Las Vegas 51s (10-9) took a doubleheader from the Albuquerque Isotopes (9-10) Monday night at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, NV. The 51s won game one 8-0 and snuck by in game two with a 3-2 victory.
DECIDING FACTOR, GAME ONE: New York Mets top prospect Noah Syndergaard started for Las Vegas and had no trouble navigating the Isotopes lineup. The right-hander tossed a complete game, facing just one batter over the minimum. He surrendered only two hits, both to Cristhian Adames. Syndergaard retired 18 straight batters between Adames' two hits.
DECIDING FACTOR, GAME TWO: The 51s jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second game with a pair of runs in the second inning. Albuquerque answered with a two-out, two-RBI double from Kyle Parker to tie the game in the third. The two teams held each other in check until a leadoff home run by Las Vegas' Alex Castellanos in the sixth to put the game away.
ASTOUNDING ADAMES: Shortstop Cristhian Adames continued tearing the cover off the ball. He collected both of the Isotopes hits in the game one, going 2-for-3. Adames now has 22 hits during his last 15 games, including a team-leading eight multi-hit games. He also has 11 runs scored, three doubles, three homers, nine RBI, six walks and only four strikeouts. Adames is batting .393 (22-for-56) since April 12 and has three home runs on this road trip, which ties a single-season second-best for the 23-year-old.
TWO-OUT TURBULANCE: Seven of the eight runs Albuquerque allowed in game on came with two outs. The only run to not score with two was a groundout that made the second out of the inning. The trend continued in the second game as one of the 51s runs was a two-out tally, while the second scored as the second out was made. Both of the Isotopes runs in the second game came via a two-out, two-RBI double by Kyle Parker.
FORMER TOPES, CURRENT FOES: Albuquerque faced two former Isotopes Monday night: catcher Johnny Monell and infielder Alex Castellanos. The duo had no trouble handling their former team. Monell turned in a 2-for-4 night with a double and three RBI, while Castellanos combined to go 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, two RBI and a walk in the two games.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and 51s will play the finale of their four-game series Tuesday night. Right-hander Chad Bettis (2-1, 4.15) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Las Vegas will send righty Tyler Pill (0-0, 9.90).
IN THE HOLE: The Topes return home this Thursday, April 30, to host the Salt Lake Bees on College Night. Any college student, faculty or staff can present their college ID at the Isotopes Park Box Office to receive an $8 ticket and a coupon for six free wings at Buffalo Wild Wings. Team posters will also be available to the first 3,000 fans.
