Van Every, Bisons bust Barons

Jonathan Van Every went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Buffalo beat visiting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 6-4, on Tuesday.

Van Every, who had a two-run single in the first inning, blasted a game-tying solo homer in the seventh before Jason Alfaro's RBI single gave the Bisons (69-62) a 5-4 lead.

Kevin Kouzmanoff lifted a sacrifice fly in the first and added an RBI single in the seventh for Buffalo.

Danny Graves (1-1) picked up the win after allowing a run on four hits with two strikeouts in two innings. Edward Mujica tossed a perfect ninth for his fifth save. Bisons starter Jeremy Guthrie yielded three runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout in six innings.

Bobby Scales hit a solo homer in the fourth and Jim Rushford had an RBI groundout in the seventh for the Red Barons (75-56).

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Scott Mathieson (3-1) surrendered five runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 frames.

The Red Barons slipped three games behind first-place Rochester in the International League North Division. --Max Lance/MLB.com
