'Mr. Red Sox' Johnny Pesky Coming to Baseball Dinner

January 2, 2008

Manchester, NH- The Fisher Cats Foundation is proud to announce that "Mr. Red Sox" Johnny Pesky has been added to the guest list for the 2008 Granite State Baseball Dinner on Friday, January 11 at the Manchester National Guard Armory.  Pesky, who is entering his 56th year in the Boston Red Sox organization, joins the likes of Chris Carpenter, Jim Rice, Rico Petrocelli and Pat Hentgen at the charity event, with proceeds benefiting the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) and the Fisher Cats Foundation.  Tickets are still available by calling (603) 641-2005 or visiting www.nhfishercats.com.

"It is an honor to have another one of the most recognizable figures in New England baseball history attending the Granite State Baseball Dinner," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner

Pesky played nearly eight of his 10 Major League seasons with the Boston Red Sox as a shortstop and third baseman, while also spending time with the Detroit Tigers and Washington Senators.  As a 22-year-old rookie in 1942, Pesky led the Major Leagues with 205 hits.  He missed the next three seasons while serving with the Navy in World War II.  Upon his return in 1946, Pesky was an American League All-Star and helped the Red Sox reach the World Series.

He finished his career as a .307 hitter and has gone on to serve as a Red Sox manager, broadcaster, coach and scout.  The right field foul pole at Fenway Park is officially known as the Pesky Pole, and Pesky was given the honor of raising the Red Sox 2004 World Series Championship banner on the centerfield flag pole with Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski.
