Isotopes Fall As 51s' Streak Reaches 14 Games

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (11-17) fell 8-2 Tuesday afternoon to right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard and the Las Vegas 51s (20-8) at Isotopes Park. The 51s have now won 14 straight games.

WHAT WENT DOWN: Las Vegas quickly jumped on the board with a single run in the second and tacked on a pair of runs in the third and fourth. Albuquerque was down 6-0 before a leadoff double from Jose Rivera in the sixth got the Isotopes offense going. Rivera scored on a Tim Smalling single, and Ben Paulsen homered an inning later cut it to 6-2. The 51s added two more in the eighth for good measure and cruised through he final two frames.

HOW ARE THEY DOING IT?: Las Vegas has now won 14 straight games dating back to April 23 against Reno. During that stretch, the 51s have swept three opponents and survived two doubleheaders. Starting pitcher and No. 1 overall New York Mets prospect Noah Syndergaard tossed 8.0 innings of five-hit, two-run ball Tuesday. He struck out eight without a walk. The Isotopes did snap Syndergaard's scoreless innings streak of 19 straight innings dating back to April 18 with a run in the sixth. The right-hander also turned in a 3-for-4 day at the plate, finishing just a triple shy of the cycle.

ON DECK: The Isotopes hit the road for a four-game series at the Sacramento River Cats beginning Friday. Right-hander Jon Gray (1-3, 9.13) is scheduled to start for Albuquerque, while Sacramento will send lefty Ty Blach (2-2, 3.94).

IN THE HOLE: After their short four-game road trip to Sacramento, the Isotopes will return home to host the Fresno Grizzlies and River Cats during an eight-game homestand beginning May 12.
