Victorino Expected to Join Sea Dogs on Rehab Assignment Friday

Portland, Maine - Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino is expected to join the Portland Sea Dogs on a Major League rehab assignment on Friday, May 8th, at Hadlock Field when the Sea Dogs host the New Britain Rock Cats at 6:00 PM.

Victorino, 34, was placed on the 15-day DL on April 25th (retroactive to April 23rd) with a right hamstring strain. In 12 games with the Red Sox this season, the outfielder is hitting .143 (5-35) with a double, two RBI, six walks, seven strikeouts, and two stolen bases.

A two-time World Series Champion (Red Sox, 2013; Phillies, 2008), Victorino is in his third season in the Red Sox organization after spending nine years in the majors with the Padres (2003), Phillies (2005-12), and Dodgers (2012). He was acquired by the Red Sox as a free agent on December 13, 2012. An All-Star in 2009 and 2011, Victorino has played in 1,240 games and compiled a career line of .276/.341/.429 with 107 home runs, 484 RBI, 715 runs scored, 1,238 hits, and 601 stolen bases. He is also a four-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner.

Victorino is the 36th player to make a Major League rehab assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs and the 30th as a Red Sox affiliate.
