Josh Hamilton and Mitch Moreland to Rehab with Express
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Outfielder Josh Hamilton and infielder Mitch Moreland will join the Triple-A Round Rock Express on a minor league rehab assignment this weekend the Texas Rangers announced Friday.
Moreland will join the Express on Saturday, May 9 in Nashville with a scheduled 6:35 p.m. CT first pitch. Moreland was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 29 (retroactive to April 28) and underwent surgery by Dr. Keith Meister to remove a loose bone from his elbow that day. In 16 games with the Rangers this season, he is batting .304 with 9 RBIs.
Hamilton is expected to debut with Round Rock on Sunday, May 10 in Nashville with a scheduled 2:05 p.m. first pitch. Hamilton was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations on April 27. He has been working out at the Rangers' extended spring training program in Surprise, Arizona since April 28. In four games in Surprise, Hamilton was 1-for-18 with a home run. He has spent the entire 2015 season on the 15-day disabled list undergoing rehab from right shoulder surgery on February 4.
The Express open a four-game series against the Nashville Sounds tonight at First Tennessee Park. They return home to Dell Diamond on Tuesday, May 12 with a four-game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers.
