Rock Cats Win Seventh Straight, Defeat Sea Dogs 5-1
Portland, Maine- The New Britain Rock Cats (20-7) took the series opener against the Sea Dogs (11-17) 5-1 at Hadlock Field, extending their win streak to seven, while Portland dropped its fifth straight at home.
Shane Victorino, appearing on rehab assignment from the Boston Red Sox, ended the night 0-for-3 with a strikeout. He played right field for six innings and saw no action.
Sea Dogs' starter Luis Diaz (L, 0-4) allowed two earned runs on two hits while walking one and striking out seven over four innings. New Britain got on the board with two outs in the top of the fourth when David Dahl (1-3, 3 R, 3 SB) stole second base and Sea Dogs' catcher Mike Blanke threw the ball into center field, allowing Tom Murphy (1-4, R) to score from third base. Will Swanner (2-3, 2B, RBI) followed up with a double to make it a 2-0 game. The Rock Cats stole six bases in the game.
Carlos Hernandez (W, 2-0) got the win for New Britain, allowing one unearned run on seven hits in 6.2 innings, while walking none and striking out six.
Carlos Asuaje (2-4, R) scored the lone Sea Dogs run on a throwing error by Will Swanner. Oscar Tejeda went 2-for-3 and has now registered multiple hits in seven of his last eight games.
The teams square off again tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. Mike Augliera (1-4, 6.65) is the scheduled starter for Portland while Yohan Flande (4-0, 1.76) is expected to start for the Rock Cats.
