Jemiola, Tourists, Blank BlueClaws 3-0 on Saturday
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Zach Jemiola threw a complete game shutout as Asheville topped the BlueClaws 3-0 at FirstEnergy Park on Saturday afternoon.
Jemiola, who improved to 4-2, tied his career high with nine strikeouts and became the first pitcher since Delmarva's Bobby Bundy on August 16, 2010 to throw a complete game shutout against the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws have now dropped four in a row and fall to 13-15 on the year while Asheville, winners of three of their last four, improve to 13-16.
Asheville scored twice in the second inning to take the lead, jumping out on an RBI single by Forrest Wall and extending the lead on an RBI double by Randy Reyes. The Tourists, affiliate of the Rockies, extended their lead in the 4th inning on another RBI double by Wall, a Rockies' first-round pick last year, who went 2-4 with two RBIs in the game.
Lakewood starter Chris Oliver, who fell to 2-3, allowed three runs over six innings to take the loss. Scott Harris threw three scoreless innings of relief and has not allowed a run in five innings since being activated off the disabled list on Wednesday.
Rhys Hoskins had two of the six BlueClaws hits.
Before the game, C Chace Numata was activated off the disabled list by the BlueClaws. IF Tim Zier was placed on the DL with a right shin contusion.
The BlueClaws and Tourists continue their series on Sunday at 1:05. LHP Elniery Garcia (2-2) starts for Lakewood against LHP Helmis Rodriguez.
