Great Falls 14, Idaho Falls 6
The Voyagers scored one run in the third inning before tagging Chukars' starting pitcher Leondy Perez with four more runs in the fourth. Perez pitched a shutout fifth inning, but fell to 2-3 on the season after taking the loss. The Voyagers then went on to score two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh off of Chad Blauer, who was the first to come out of the bullpen for the Chukars. In his only inning of work, Tyler Graham allowed five runs in the ninth. Only one of the 14 runs charged to the Chukars' pitching staff was unearned.
The Chukars offense didn't score until after Voyagers' starting pitcher David Holmberg left the game. Geulin Beltre hit a triple to drive in two runs in the sixth inning, and then he scored on wild pitch. In the ninth inning the first three batters loaded up the bases with consecutive singles, and Murray Watts sent them all home with a bases-clearing double. That would be the end of the scoring.
The two teams combined for 33 hits, with the Chukars collecting 14. Eight of the Voyagers 19 hits were for extra bases. Rob Vaughn, who was hitting .143 going into Sunday's game, went 4-for-5 as one of seven Voyagers to finish with a multi-hit game. Six Chukars also had a multi-hit game, including Murray Watts, who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
The series between the Chukars and Voyagers continues Monday night at 7:15.
