Nuts Complete Series-Opening, Comeback Victory

Modesto, CA. - Erasing two deficits, the Modesto Nuts came from behind to win 4-2 against the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.

With the Nuts (17-15) down by a run, Dillon Thomas crushed a solo shot to tie the game in the seventh.

After Matt Pierpont (W, 1-0) gave up a run in the top of the eighth, the Nuts came back with three runs in the bottom of the eighth against the Giants (10-22) to secure the win.

In the eighth, Shane Hoelscher tied the game with a suicide squeeze against Mason McVay (L, 1-2). Hoelscher reached on what turned out to be a bunt single. Hoelscher scored on Correlle Prime's RBI single. For the second straight game, Prime has driven in the game-winning run. Prime would score on Wilfredo Rodriguez's RBI knock.

Carlos Estevez (S, 4/4) worked around a walk in a scoreless ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Antonio Senzatela was locked in a battle with Giants' starter Chase Johnson. Senzatela tossed 6.2 innings allowing just five hits and one run. The righty struck out six and walked one. He struck out four in a row at one point during a stretch of eight consecutive batters retired. Senzatela cut down the first seven batter of the ball game.

Chase Johnson worked six shutout innings for the Giants. He K'ed four, walked one and allowed five hits.

The middle affair of the three-game set between the Nuts and Giants will have righty Konner Wade on the bump for the Nuts against righty Keury Mella of the Giants.
