Silverio Assumes Hero's Role in Sixers' Win
"I love [hitting in clutch situations]," Silverio said. "You've got to be focused on what you're doing and he's trying to get you out, but if you get get good contact, you're going to get it.
"I feel like I'm the hero. I want to be the hero. I want to hit the ball and score the run."
Jaff Decker took Josh Walter deep for a two-run home run three batters into the ballgame, but Andres Perez laced a two-run double to left-centerfield in the second, knotting the game at 2-2. Lake Elsinore re-claimed the lead in each of the next two frames, only to see the lead relinquished on Travis Denker's third-inning groundout and Silverio's RBI knock in the fourth.
Silverio ended the night 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, and Denker provided some insurance with a two-runs in the eighth, giving him three RBI on the night.
Walter fought his control throughout the night and was chased early by the Storm. Despite allowing just three hits, Walter was tagged with five runs (three earned) due in part to a season-high eight walks issued by the right-hander. The two unearned runs by Lake Elsinore in the fourth were scored without a single hit.
Javier Solano was spectacular in relief of Walter, continuing his impressive run ofdominance with 3 2/3 scoreless innings of one-hit baseball. In his last 14 innings, Solano has allowed just one earned run. Kyle Smit pitched two scoreless innings and earned the victory.
The past two times the 66ers and Storm have met, the winner of the series' first game has gone on to sweep, and with JonMichael Redding on the mound Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., Inland Empire will look to continue that trend. A win tomorrow would give the Sixers their first series win of the season at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.
