Former Brewer Hiram Burgos added from Brevard County
HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the following roster moves that affect the Biloxi Shuckers roster prior to today's 7:10 p.m. series opener against the Jacksonville Suns at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama.
- Hiram Burgos, RHP, Transferred to Biloxi from Advanced-A Brevard County, (pronounced HI-rum BURR-gose)
- Eric Marzec RHP, Transferred to Advanced-A Brevard County from Biloxi
Burgos, 27, made seven starts from the Advanced-A affiliate of the Brewers in the Florida State League going 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA (18 ER/39.1 IP), striking out 47 batters and walking just 14. Burgos ranked second in FSL in strikeouts (47), fifth in innings pitched (39.1) and second in strikeouts per nine-innings pitched (10.75 K/ 9IP).
Burgos missed the majority of the 2014 season with a right shoulder strain, being placed on the disabled list on April 29th, and missed the remainder of the season. The Cayey, Puerto Rico native pitched for Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Winter League following the season, then was re-signed to a minor-league contract by the Brewers on January 29, 2015.
The sixth round pick in 2009 began the 2013 season at Triple-A Nashville before he was recalled by the Brewers on April 19th. Burgos earned a 5-1 win in his Major League debut on 4/20 vs. the Chicago Cubs (5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 SO). In six starts for the Brewers in 2013, Burgos went 1-2 with a 6.44 ERA in 29.1 innings, striking out 18 and walking 11. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 24th with a right shoulder impingement. He made rehab starts at Class-A Wisconsin (6/13) and Class-A Brevard County (6/18) before he was reinstated and optioned to Nashville on June 28th. He did not pitch after July 7th. Burgos participated in the World Baseball Classic for Team Puerto Rico in 2013 and went 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA in three relief appearances (13 IP, 12 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 12 SO). In 111 minor league games, 90 starts over his five-year career he is 31-33 with a 3.76 ERA. Burgos attended Bethune-Cookman University and attended Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School. Marzec, 27, appeared in five games for the Shuckers this season, the Canton, OH native is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA (4 ER/7.2 IP) this season. In 187 career games, Marzec is 17-14 with a 2.57 ERA over his seven-year minor league career. Marzec was drafted by the Brewers in the 30th round of the 2010 draft out of Youngstown State.
