May 16, 2015

FRISCO, TEXAS (May 16, 2015) - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that Wilfredo Boscan was promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis and added to the Major League 25-man roster. When he makes his Major League debut, he will become the 129th former RoughRider to play in the big leagues.

Boscan, a ninth-year pro, had a 2.87 ERA in six starts for the Triple-A Indians, the most recent on Sunday. Boscan spent the first six seasons of his professional career with the Texas Rangers, including two different stints with the Frisco RoughRiders.

The Opening Day starter in 2011, Boscan appeared in five games compiling a 1-3 record before being assigned to Adanced-A Myrtle Beach. Boscan rejoined the Riders in 2012, finishing 7-5 in 34 games. In 98 1/3 innings, Boscan held a 3.75 earned run average and struck out 89 hitters.

Boscan threw six shutout innings against the Tulsa Drillers on August 15 allowing just three hits while striking out a season high nine hitters.

He joins an extensive list of former RoughRiders on Major League rosters. There were 33 former RoughRiders on the Opening Day active rosters of 16 different MLB teams this season, highlighted by the big league debuts of 2014 Frisco players Keone Kela and Odubel Herrera. The Texas Rangers have an MLB-high 12 former RoughRiders on their roster.
