LHP Daniel Schlereth added to Iowa's active roster

May 18, 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Chicago Cubs today added left-handed pitcher Daniel Schlereth to Iowa's active roster. Schlereth joins the I-Cubs from Extended Spring Training and is active for tonight's game at Oklahoma City wearing No. 21.

Schlereth, 29, was signed by Chicago to a minor league deal April 28. The southpaw has 94 games of major league experience between Arizona and Detroit. He has a career 5-6 record with a 4.35 ERA (45ER/93.0IP) and 91 strikeouts.

He most recently appeared in six games for the Tigers in 2012, going 0-0 with a 10.29 ERA (8ER/7.0IP).

Schlereth was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 26th overall pick in the 2008 June draft. He made his major league debut on May 29, 2009 with the Diamondbacks. Schlereth was traded along with P Max Scherzer to Detroit in 2009 as part of a three-team trade that sent OF Curtis Granderson to the Yankees, and pitchers Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy to Arizona.

He split the 2014 season between Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pittsburgh Pirates system and Detroit's Triple-A Toledo.
