Ask A RiverDog: Meet Austin Aune

May 19, 2015

Q: You were selected by the Yankees in the 2nd round of the 2012 Draft. Can you describe what was going through your mind and how you felt after your name was called?

A: Well I was actually at TCU going through my football workouts and getting everything set up for school. The Yankees went ahead and drafted me in the 2nd round. The opportunity to play for a 27-time World Champion was definitely something that I wanted to pursue.

Q: Did you have that in the back of your mind when you committed to play football at TCU that there was a chance you could've been selected in the draft?

A: To be honest, going into my senior year, I was really more focused on football. I didn't know I was getting that much attention to be drafted that high in baseball, but it all worked out. I had a good senior season and I guess I impressed some of the scouts. It just kind of happened the way it did.

Q: You have spent a couple of weeks here in Charleston. What do you like most about it so far?

A: The great fans. They fill the seats and they are loud. I was playing in the GCL for a couple years and there are no fans. Staten Island we got some fans on some good nights, but playing here is just a really nice atmosphere. The fans are great, the stadium is beautiful, and the town is great. It is awesome to be here.

Q: On the first road trip, you and the team came back to win several games. What's the energy like in the dugout and on the field with your teammates when you guys are in the middle of a rally?

A: We have a full nine innings to play, so never count us out. We have come back plenty of times this season. I think doing it over and over again gives us the confidence that we are never out of a game. When we are down four runs, we don't stress or try to make things happen. We just keep playing and things work out in our favor.
