Facts on Tulsa's Historical 1-0 Win Tuesday Night

The Drillers took 17 innings to beat Springfield 1-0 Tuesday night. The Texas League researched league archives an uncovered some interesting facts about extended 1-0 games in league history.

The 17-inning win by Tulsa at Springfield was just the fourth time in Texas League history that a game has lasted as long and ended with a 1-0 score.

The record 1-0 contest in the league was started on July 14, 1988, suspended in the early hours of July 15 and completed on July 16 with San Antonio finally prevailing over Jackson in 26 innings.

On Opening Day, April 14, 1942, Beaumont defeated Houston 1-0 in 18 innings.

Also in 18 innings, El Paso topped Austin 1-0 on August 19, 1965.

There have been two long ties in league history where neither team scored a run, July 23, 1906, a 19 inning, 0-0 contest between Cleburne and Fort Worth and on May 30, 1947 when Houston and Shreveport battled over 18 innings before darkness halted the scoreless contest.

In league history, in games of 16 innings or longer, there have been just three other 1-0 games, all 16 innings, on August 17, 1913 when San Antonio dropped Fort Worth; On May 13, 1919 when Galveston got past Waco and September 14, 1964 when San Antonio beat Tulsa.

In all the long games in TL history, all the shutouts lasting 16 innings or longer have ended in ties or 1-0. There has not been another long shutout that has ended other than 0-0 or 1-0.
