Dominguez's Slam the Capper in 11-Run Frame

July 24, 2010

Augusta, GA - Chris Dominguez hit the fourth Augusta GreenJackets grand slam of the year as the cherry on top of an 11-run third inning that propped the Jackets to a 13-7 win over the Hickory Crawdads on Saturday night.

Trailing 5-0 entering the bottom of the third, the Jackets sent 14 hitters to the plate in a half-inning that took 22 minutes to complete. The first seven men to the plate all reached, six of them on base hits. Dominguez singled in a run to put the Jackets on the board while Luke Anders doubled home two more to cut the Hickory lead to two runs. After Tommy Joseph's RBI single made it a one-run game, Ryan Lollis walked and Evan Crawford singled to bring Eliezer Zambrano to the plate. He flew out for the first out of the inning, but the sacrifice fly tied the game at five in the third inning.

Ydwin Villegas gave the Jackets the lead for good with a single through the right side of the infield to put the Jackets up a run. After Nick Liles walked to load the bases, Ryan Cavan's single brought the Augusta lead to two before Dominguez cleared the bases with his round-tripper. The grand slam was just Dominguez's fourth home run of the season at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Prior to the Augusta third, it was all Hickory as the Crawdads took a 5-0 lead after two and a half innings. After Brian Irving retired the first five hitters of the contest, the Crawdads picked up a run in the second on a two-out walk and back-to-back singles with the run-scoring hit coming from Jonathan Roof. In the Crawdads half of the third, five hits yielded four runs. A Jared Prince RBI single preceded a three-run home run by Vinny DiFazio to put the 'Dads up by five in a game that saw both teams combine for 15 of 20 total runs in the third inning.

After Augusta's 11-run third, the GreenJackets extended their scoring stretch to 13 unanswered runs with a pair of runs in the sixth before the Crawdads got two back in the seventh on a two-run single from Edwin Garcia.

Irving (6-3) held on through five innings for the win, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two. Jake Brigham (2-2) allowed ten runs on ten hits in 2.1 innings to get the loss.

The GreenJackets are now 4-1 in this current homestand and have won five of their last six games and six of their last eight. Augusta sends Chris Heston (3-10, 4.52) to the mound on Sunday afternoon against Matt Thompson (7-7, 4.08) as the GreenJackets look to extend their winning ways.
