Bohm & Kalina qualify for HR Derby

Two Nebraska Amateurs will compete with the Triple-A All-Stars in Derby Event

Papillion, NE - Two Nebraska Amateur Baseball players will be on equal footing with Triple-A players for one night this summer. Alec Bohm and Jack Kalina qualified this morning for the Triple-A Home Run Derby powered by OPPD to be held at Werner Park on Monday July 13th, as part of First National Bank All-Star Week in Omaha.

Bohm and Kalina were joined by Grant Suponchick and Christopher Cornish in the HS Home Run Derby Qualifying Round whick took place this morning at Werner Park. The two participants with the highest homerun totals advanced.

Bohm, a senior this past school year for Roncalli Catholic, belted 7 homeruns in the first round to qualify.

Kalina, a senior at Papillion-La Vista High School this past term, finished the first round tied with Suponchick with four homeruns. A coin toss was held to determine the order of the tiebreaker round, with Suponchick winning and deferring to Kalina. Kalina hit two homeruns in the tiebreaker, enough to advance. 

The two amateurs will compete against six 2015 Triple-A All-Stars, three from the Pacific Coast League and three from the International League, on Monday July 13th at Werner Park. The Triple-A players competing in the event will be selected in early July.

The 2015 First National Bank 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game presented by Gildan comes to Nebraska for the first time in the game's history on Wednesday July 15th, 2015 at Werner Park and will be televised live on MLB Network. Four days of festivities will precede the game beginning with the free admission ConAgra Foods Celebrity All-Star FanFest on Sunday, July 12th, the 2015 Triple-A Home Run Derby powered by OPPD on Monday July 13th, a free-admission All-Star Media Day on Tuesday July 14, a private Gala at the Henry Doorly Zoo presented by Werner Enterprises, and the SAC Federal Credit Union All-Star Spotlight Luncheon on Wednesday, July 15.
