Bats K.O. Red Sox, 6-1, on Superhero Night

May 23, 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (21-22) jumped out to an early lead Saturday, beating the Pawtucket Red Sox (24-20) 6-1 on Superhero Night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bats plated two runs in the first inning on a Pawtucket throwing error and an RBI single by outfielder Steve Selsky, who extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Louisville extended their lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by outfielder Jose Constanza to make it a 3-0 game.

In the fourth, outfielder Chris Dominguez added to the cause with a sacrifice fly, to push the Louisville lead to 4-0.

That was more than the Bats would need as right-hander Josh Smith (W, 1-1, 2.87) turned in a solid performance for Louisville. The 27-year-old allowed just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in his first win with the Bats in 2015.

Pawtucket scratched out a run in the top of the sixth when outfielder Bryce Brentz brought in a run with a sacrifice fly.

However, the Bats regained their four-run advantage in the seventh when Constanza beat out a double play for an RBI fielder's choice.

Lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (L, 4-3, 3.05) surrendered five runs, but just two earned runs, on nine hits with six strikeouts in the loss for Pawtucket.

Selsky continued his torrid pace with another RBI single in the eighth. The 25 year-old outfielder went 2-for-4 with two RBI and now has eight RBI during his 10-game hit streak.

Louisville will look to take the series from Pawtucket tomorrow, as the Bats will send southpaw David Holmberg to the mound, to square-off against Red Sox lefty Brian Johnson.
