Straily's gem leads Fresno to win

The right-hander tosses his second straight quality start
May 24, 2015

FRESNO, Calif. - Just when everyone thought the Fresno Grizzlies (25-18) were all offense, they showed off yet another solid pitching performance to grab a 5-3 win over the Nashville Sounds (16-27) Sunday afternoon at Chukchansi Park.

Starter Dan Straily made his second straight quality start, limiting the Sounds to three runs over seven innings and striking out six. Hanford native Tyson Perez tossed a scoreless eighth inning, while Kevin Chapman recorded his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Straily is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA (3 ER/13.0 IP) and 13 strikeouts over his past two starts.

"About three starts ago [pitching coach] Ace [Adams] and I found some stuff on video from differences between this year compared to a couple years ago when I was experiencing some success," stated Straily after the game. "The small mechanical adjustments have translated into the game and now we're getting more success."

All three runs he allowed came in the Nashville third, two of which were on two-run homer from Ryan Roberts. Straily only gave up three hits the rest of the way to finish off his longest outing of the season.

Once again the Fresno offense kicked into gear after trailing. They tied the game in the third after Nolan Fontana led off with a double and scored on a single from Alex Presley. The Grizzlies grabbed the lead the next inning with a Matt Dominguez RBI single and then added an insurance run in the sixth on Jon Singleton's Minor League leading 14th homer of the year.

Fresno welcomes the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, to Chukchansi Park starting Monday night. They'll play the four-game set in Downtown Fresno through Thursday. For ticket information, contact the box office at 559.320.TIXS or go to FresnoGrizzlies.com.
