RHP Hochevar promoted

September 2, 2006
BURLINGTON, Iowa -- The Kansas City Royals have promoted Burlington Bees RHP Luke Hochevar to the Wichita Wranglers in the Double-A Texas League today.

The Wranglers have clinched the second-half title in the Texas Leauge's Eastern Division and Hochevar will arrive in time for postseason play.

Hochevar, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 draft, was 0-1 with a 1.17 ERA in four starts with the Bees. In 15.1 innings, he allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking two and striking out 16.

He got his first Minor League loss last night, allowing a pair of solo home runs in the top of the second inning in a 2-1 loss to the Swing of the Quad Cities. The first home run snapped a streak of 10.1 innings without allowing an earned run to begin his career.

Hochevar is the first No. 1 overall pick in Royals' history and the only No. 1 overall pick to ever play for the Bees. With the addition of Hochevar, the Wranglers now have the Royals top selection from each of the last five drafts and six of their seven first-round picks since 2002.

The Bees host the Swing at Community Field tonight at 7. Tonight is Fan Appreciation Night for the Bees final home game of the season. It is Family Night sponsored by Long John Silver's/A&W. Mom, Dad, and all the kids in your house get in for $14. JD Byrider and Louisa Communications sponsor a bicycle giveaway and Kitchens Plus sponsors a drawing for two baseball gloves. The Bees will empty their prize vault for the year and all souvenirs will be 20% off. There will also be a drawing for two team-autographed bats and game-worn batting practice jerseys. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pregame show starting at 6:40.
