May 29, 2015

EL PASO, Texas - The Chicago Cubs made a series of roster moves affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game against the El Paso Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park. Right-handed pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. has been promoted to Triple-A Iowa. Meanwhile, left-handed pitcher Hunter Cervenka has been released.

Edwards, 23, is 2-2 with a 2.66 ERA (7ER/23.2IP) and four saves for Double-A Tennessee this season. The righty has walked 17 and struck out 36.

Edwards was named the fifth best prospect in the Chicago Cubs farm system heading into the 2015 season by Baseball America. He was acquired by Chicago from the Texas Rangers along with infielder Mike Olt and pitchers Justin Grimm and Neil Ramirez in exchange for pitcher Matt Garza on July 22, 2013.

Cervenka, 25, went 0-1 with an 11.08 ERA (16ER/13.0IP) in 12 games for Iowa this season. He walked 15 and struck out 20.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is at 25 plus two players on the disabled list.
