Everybody Hits: Power beat 'Birds 7-3
(Salisbury, MD- May 29, 2015)- The West Virginia Power beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-3Friday evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Power held a 5-0 lead after one inning of play and snapped their two game losing streak with the win.
West Virginia pounced on Delmarva starting pitcher Brian Gonzalez with five runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Pablo Reyes singled in Cole Tucker for a 1-0 advantage. Chase Simpson singled in Jordan Luplow and Reyes for a 3-0 lead. After Tito Polo doubled, Kawika Emsley-Pai singled to center field, plating Simpson and Polo for a 5-0 edge.
Delmarva broke up the shutout in the bottom of the third with two runs against Power starter Yuedy Garcia. West Virginia got one of the two runs back in the top of the fourth as Cole Tucker singled in Elvis Escobar for a 6-2 lead. The Shorebirds added a run against Garcia in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Power closed the scoring in the eighth with one run on two hits and a walk. Escobar's second hit of the game drove in Polo for a 7-3 lead.
Garcias (3-3) pitched five innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts. Jose Regalado worked the last four innings for his second save of the season. Gonzalez (3-3) was charged with the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits over three-plus innings.
All of the nine Power batters had at least one hit, including multi-hit games by Tucker, Emsley-Pai and Escobar. Simpson and Emsley-Pai drove in two run apiece.
The Power and Shorebirds play game three of this set on Saturday. West Virginia's Stephen Tarpley will face Delmarva's Matthew Grimes with first pitch set at 7:05 pm.
