Former Thresher stellar in Major League debut

Domonic Brown scored twice and drove in two to help Phillies win
July 29, 2010

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Playing in place of the injured Shane Victorino, Domonic Brown delivered a pair of hits and RBI in his major league debut to help Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-1 on Wednesday night. Brown was a member of the Clearwater Threshers in 2009, playing in 66 games with a .303 batting average.

The Phillies' 20th round draft pick in 2006 doubled off the wall in his first major league at bat to score Jayson Werth for his first major league RBI.

Brown singled in the sixth inning and drove a run home in the seventh on a sacrifice fly.

Brown started the 2010 campaign in double-A Reading after a strong spring training where he hit .417 in 11 games. With the R-Phils, the Zephyrhills, Fla. native clubbed 15 home runs and registered a .318 clip in 65 games to earn a promotion to triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The former Pasco High School alum continued his offensive onslaught, hitting .346 in 28 games with the Iron Pigs. Brown finally got his shot when Victorino was sidelined, making his much anticipated debut on July 28 in a sold-out Citizen's Bank Park.

With the Threshers, Brown hit 11 home runs and was selected to play in the FSL All-Star Game. He also became the first position player from the Threshers to play in the Major Leagues since Jason Donald (2008) made his debut with the Cleveland Indians earlier this season.
