Ems honor Brian Reams

July 29, 2010
EUGENE, Or. - Tonight the Emeralds are celebrating the cult classic "Animal House" which was filmed on the University of Oregon's campus 32 years ago. In honor of Animal House, and the University of Oregon Greek life, the Ems are also celebrating the life, and foundation of Brian Reams.

Brian Reams was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, when on March 4, 2007, as he was walking home from a friend's house, was killed by a drunk driver. The event was devastating to the fraternity and the university.

Kyle Kusich, member of Beta Theta Pi and coordinator for the Brian Reams Foundation, has said "Many of the students among Greek life at the University of Oregon know Brian's story, but we really would love to get support from people outside the Greek life community."

Two years ago, Brian's father Joe Reams, opened the Brian Reams Memorial fund. It was always Brian's dream that when he graduated college he would open up a recreation center for underprivileged youth in his hometown of Pocatello, ID. Beta Theta Pi Fraternity has taken it upon themselves as Brian's brothers to raise awareness and funds to keep Brian's dream alive. To this day, they have raised over $10,000.

The Emeralds are proud to give support and awareness to such a wonderful person, who was known for his sense of humor and his kindness.

Kusich said "We are really excited to have the opportunity to get Brian's story out to the people of Eugene. With more support, we can ensure that Brian's dream of opening a rec center remains obtainable for many more years to come."
