Figueroa Named IL Batter of the Week

Infielder Set & Tied Career-High Marks
June 1, 2015

Moosic, Pa. - A career day highlighted a fantastic week that has drawn some well-deserved recognition. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) infielder Cole Figueroa has been named the International League's Batter of the Week for May 25-31.

Figueroa led the International League last week with a .550 batting average, a .609 on‐base percentage, an .800 slugging percentage, and 10 RBIs. He made headlines Wednesday when he set a career-high mark for hits in a game by going 5‐for‐5 with a homer, a double, and a career‐high‐tying five RBIs to help the RailRiders win 9‐6 and complete a three‐game sweep at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium.

He followed that performance by collecting two hits and four RBIs in SWBʹs 7‐0 win Friday over Norfolk. Figueroa struck out just once in 20 at‐bats this week. For the season, he comfortably leads the league with a ratio of 23.57 plate appearances per strikeout. Indianapolisʹ Steve Lombardozzi owns the circuit's next-best ratio at 11.57 plate appearances per strikeout.

The 27‐year‐old Figueroa is in his eighth season playing professionally and his first in the Yankees organization after signing as a free agent this past December. He made his Major League debut last season and saw action in 23 games for the Tampa Bay Rays.

He became the second RailRider to claim a weekly honor this season. Rob Refsnyder was named Batter of the Week for the span of May 11-18. SWB had not had two different Batters of the Week in the same season since Zoilo Almonte (April 29-May 6), Melky Mesa (Aug. 5-12) and Ronnier Mustelier (Aug. 19-26) all took the accolade in 2013.

Gwinnett right-hander Matt Wisler was named Pitcher of the Week by the IL office.

The RailRiders are home through Wednesday afternoon. For tickets or more information, call 570-969-BALL (2255) or visit the team's website, www.swbrailriders.com.
