Wiest Dominant in 5-2 Win

June 1, 2015

Visalia, CA. - Grahamm Wiest had his best start of the year for the Modesto Nuts to lead them to a 5-2 win against the Visalia Rawhide on Monday night at Recreation Park.

Wiest (W, 2-3) struck out a season-high eight batters in just five innings of work, never really having to work out of trouble. The righty allowed a solo home run to Kevin Cron, but that would be all the Rawhide (34-17) would get.

The Nuts (25-26) took advantage of three errors to score four unearned runs. After Raimel Tapia reached second on an error, Correlle Prime drove him in with a single. A two-out mistake by Kevin Medrano at third allowed two runs to score to put the Nuts up in the first. In the fifth, Tapia added a sac fly before the inning was extended on an error leading to a bases-loaded walk to Rosell Herrera.

Anthony Banda (L, 4-3) worked five innings in his start for the Rawhide and allowed all five runs, but only one was earned while he struck out five and walked one.

Matt Carasiti (S, 1/1) sent the side down in order in the ninth to secure the win for the Nuts.

The Nuts will go for the series victory in the four-game series finale on Tuesday night. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:00 p.m. To listen on your iPhone or iPad click here. For PC and Flash enabled Android phones click here
