College Fair at McCoy Stadium, Wednesday, Sept. 22nd

July 30, 2010

The College Planning Center of Rhode Island, a local service that provides free college planning and financial aid counseling, is hosting a college fair in partnership with the Pawtucket Red Sox at McCoy Stadium this fall. High school students and their parents should mark their calendars for September 22, 2010 from 6-8 pm. This event is sponsored by B101.

Colleges and universities from all over the northeast are expected to attend. In addition, counselors from the College Planning Center will be offering free seminars on college planning and financial aid at the fair. Financial aid seminars will be conducted in both English and Spanish.

Students and families can easily become overwhelmed when selecting colleges. With over 4,000 colleges and universities nationwide, it is difficult to know where to begin or what the best option is. College fairs are a great way to learn about colleges and meet representatives of schools, helping to narrow options.

All high school students - even students that aren't sure if college is right for them - are encouraged to attend the fair. "Many students think they can't get in to college, that they won't be able to afford it, or might not know where to begin because they are first in their family to pursue a college education," says David DeBlois, Director of the College Planning Center. Deblois continues, "But college is a possibility for almost all students. This fair is a great place for students to talk face-to-face with representatives of colleges and get a feel for what might be a good fit for them."

Admission to the college fair is free and plenty of parking will be available at no cost. The event will take place indoors, rain or shine. Attendees and students will have access to areas in the stadium that are usually off-limits to the public, including the batting cages and locker rooms. Students who attend and register at the fair will be entered into a drawing for a scholarship. The College Planning Center recommends students come prepared with list of questions to ask the schools, making the most out of the fair.

The College Planning Center of Rhode Island is a free service of the non-profit quasi-state Rhode Island Student Loan Authority. The College Planning Center provides free in person assistance on college selection, applications, financial aid and more. To book an appointment with an experienced college planning counselor or if you have any questions about the college fair call 401-736-3170 or visit http://www.CollegePlanningCenter.org.
