Cubs Sweep Cardinals

Cubs Offense Strikes for 11 Runs and 21 Hits
July 30, 2010
The Daytona Cubs (58-46, 24-10) swept away the Palm Beach Cardinals (55-48, 16-17) with an 11-2 series finale victory on Friday evening. Alberto Cabrera dominated on the mound and the Cubs offense continued to boil red hot.

The Cubs jumped all over the Cardinals starter Richard Castillo with seven runs over the first four innings. Daytona got two runs in the bottom of the second inning with RBI's from left fielder Greg Rohan and shortstop Junior Lake.

Daytona scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning as first baseman Rebel Ridling cleared the bases with a double to the gap in left-center field. Ridling now has 56 RBI on the year.

The Cubs scored the final two runs against Castillo in the bottom of the fourth inning. Both runs came home with two outs on the board as third baseman Ryan Flaherty drove in Junior Lake and Kyler Burke doubled home Flaherty.

The Daytona Cubs offensive attack continued in the sixth inning when Ryan Flaherty connected with his fourth home run of the season driving in DJ LeMahieu. Rebel Ridling would also add his fourth RBI of the night with his second double. The 11-0 lead would be ample run support to sweep the Cardinals and push the D-Cubs win streak to a season high 12 games.

The Cardinals score two runs in the ninth inning off Cubs reliever David Patton, but couldn't muster enough offense to come back in a 11-2 blowout win for Daytona.

Alberto Cabrera (5-3) picked up his second straight win, and Richard Castillo (6-8) took his second loss against the Daytona Cubs this season.

The Cubs will now welcome in the Bradenton Marauders for a four-game series beginning on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. Fireworks will follow the contest courtesy of WDSC PBS Channel 15 and Jon Hall Automotive.
