Perdomo Named Cardinals MiLB Pitcher of the Month

June 4, 2015

PEORIA, IL - The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Thursday that Peoria Chiefs right-hander Luis Perdomo has been named the organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May.

For the month of May, the 22-year old Dominican Republic native made five starts going 1-4 with a 1.42 ERA. He struck out 33 batters in 31 2/3 innings and held opponents to a .230 batting average. He led the Chiefs in strikeouts in May while also posting the best ERA among Peoria starting pitchers. Perdomo suffered from bad luck in the month as well as the Chiefs offense mustered a total of six runs in his four losses and twice he was on the wrong side of a 2-0 loss.

The 33 strikeouts in May also led the entire Cardinals organization with Chiefs teammate Austin Gomber second with 31 strikeouts. Perdomo's 1.42 ERA in May was more than a half run better than any other starter in the organization for the month.

Perdomo will start Thursday night in Midland, Michigan against the Great Lakes Loons as the reigning Midwest League Pitcher of the Week. In his last start on May 29, Perdomo struck out nine over eight shutout innings while allowing just three hits in a 5-0 win over the Kane County Cougars. He enters Thursday's start having allowed just one earned run in his last 22 innings of work dating back to May 11. Overall on the season Perdomo is 2-4 with a 1.48 ERA in eight starts while striking out 52 batters in 48 2/3 innings.
