Zawacki's gem ends four-game losing streak

Jupiter, FL- The Palm Beach Cardinals (17-17, 56-48) beat the Clearwater Threshers (14-22, 51-55) tonight at Roger Dean Stadium by a score of 3-1. Brett Zawacki (5-3) struck out a season-high five batters over six 2/3 innings to help snap the Cardinals four-game losing streak. David Carpenter got Carlos Perdomo to fly out to right field with the tying runs on second and third to record his 14th save.

Ryde Rodriguez led the Cardinal attack, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Catcher Luis De La Cruz added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a solo home run (1) off of Heitor Correa (6-11). De La Cruz and Rodriguez accounted for four of the six Palm Beach base knocks.

Alex Castellanos extended his hitting streak to three games with a single in the second inning and has now recorded a hit in 11 of his last 12 contests.

The two teams will meet up tomorrow in game two of this four-game series. Kevin Thomas is the probable Palm Beach starter and will be searching for his team-leading seventh win. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
