Former Frog Friday: Adam Jones

The Orioles All Star Started His Career In Everett
June 5, 2015

Glance at Adam Jones' twitter profile and you won't first see evidence of his spectacular eight years and counting with the Baltimore Orioles. Instead, his profile photo is a picture of his Mariners rookie card with the quote, "Nothing has changed. The grind is real."

Before he became one of the best known outfielders in major league baseball, Jones was a part of a now legendary 2003 AquaSox team. Drafted out of high school as a pitcher and shortstop, he spent the 2003 season wearing the same jersey as a young Felix Hernandez in Everett.

A San Diego native who didn't pick up a baseball bat until he was 12 years old, Jones demonstrated his adaptability when the Mariners asked him to become an outfielder in 2006. The move paid off because on July 14, 2006, he got the call up to Seattle from Triple A Tacoma.

As he worked on refining his five tools, the Baltimore Orioles set their sights on getting Jones and successfully traded for him in February of 2008. Almost immediately, Jones flashed his talent and was selected to represent the team at the 2009 All Star Game.

Known for his strong arm, athleticism in center field and relentless work ethic, his career has now included winning four AL Gold Glove awards, representing the Orioles at four All Star Games and reaching 1,000 career hits and 500 career RBIs (both in 2014).

But Jones' impact does not stop on the baseball field. In addition to being well-known for engaging with fans online and at games, Jones partnered with the YMCA in Maryland and became an Honorary Chairman of the Y of Central Maryland's Send a Child to Camp campaign.
