Stein's Double Helps Snap Three-Game Skid

June 7, 2015

Modesto, CA. - Late offense backed the Modesto Nuts pitching staff in their 5-1 win over the Stockton Ports on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field.

Troy Stein delivered the go-ahead RBI double in the seventh to give the Nuts (27-29) the lead for good. In the eighth, the Nuts tacked on three, two-out runs to secure the victory.

Harrison Musgrave threw well in his start for the Nuts working 6.1 innings allowing one run while striking out six. The lone run was a bloop RBI single in the seventh to give the Ports a brief one-run lead.

Matt Pierpont (W, 3-1) came in out of the 'pen in the seventh and stranded a pair of inherited runners while throwing 1.1 innings with a strike out.

Dillon Overton (L, 2-2) came out of the bullpen and surrendered all five runs in the final two innings. A.J. Griffin made a Major League rehab appearance and tossed four scoreless innings with five strikeouts and allowed just one hit.

With the win, the Nuts snap a three-game losing streak and avoid a four-game sweep against the Ports.
