Offensive Players of the Week

For the week ending June 7
June 8, 2015

Here's a look at the top offensive performers in each league for the week ending June 7:

International League
Francisco Lindor, Columbus
(.423/.448/.731, 7 G, 11-for-26, 1 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 2 CS)
The Indians' top prospect started his week by going 3-for-4 with a solo homer -- his second of the season -- and never looked back from there. The switch-hitting shortstop had multiple hits in four of his seven games last week, raising his average from .249 to .271 in the process. With infielders Lonnie Chisenall and Jose Ramirez optioned back to Triple-A on Sunday, there was hope that Lindor would get his chance in Cleveland. Alas, that will have to wait as Giovanny Urshela and Zach Walters got the call instead. But with the way the 21-year-old is hitting -- and the promotion of Carlos Correa signalling the end of Super Two concerns -- don't be surprised to see Lindor in an Indians uniform soon.

Pacific Coast League
Christian Villanueva, Iowa
(.333/.375/.867, 7 G, 10-for-30, 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 9 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 0 SB)
With all of the infield prospects getting ink in the Cubs system lately, Villanueva has gotten lost in the shuffle. After his hitting performance last week and the news that Javier Baez will miss a month with a fractured finger on his left hand, this might be Villanueva's time to shine. An impressive defender at the hot corner, the 23-year-old showed off an impressive bat, homering in four straight games and collecting 10 hits in that span to start the week. He's batting .285/.344/.514 with seven homers in 42 games in the PCL this season, and although that won't be enough to supplant Kris Bryant at third in the Majors, it should at least put Villanueva in the conversation for his first Major League promotion at some point in 2015.

Eastern League
Cam Perkins, Reading
(.367/.367/.867, 7 G, 11-for-30, 6 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 9 R, 0 BB, 4 K)
Perkins climbed to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2014, and after putting up just a .216/.259/.298 at the Minors' highest level, the Phillies returned him to Reading to refind his form. It's taken a little while, but thanks to an ongoing 10-game hitting streak, it appears that's finally coming to fruition. His .257 average is the highest its been all season, and with eight homers on the season, Philadelphia's No. 30 prospect has already passed his 2014 total of five.

Southern League
Matt Juengel, Jacksonville
(.391/.440/.913, 6 G, 9-for-23, 3 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K)
With only seven homers in 135 contests a season ago between the Florida State and Pacific Coast Leagues, Juengel didn't have a big reptuation as a power guy, but he flexed his muscles pretty well last week. The 25-year-old outfielder went deep three times in a four-game span between Wednesday and Saturday and now has nine long balls in 52 games with the Suns. With plenty of time left in the summer, he needs only five more dingers to tie his career best of 14, set in 2013 with Class A Greensboro.

Texas League
Mike Ohlman, Springfield
(.467/.500/.933, 4 G, 7-for-15, 1 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K)
Ohlman may have played in only four games, but he left his mark in each of those contests. The 24-year-old catcher was traded from the Orioles to the Cardinals back in February after being designated for assignment by the former and has done pretty well in his first season in the St. Louis system, producing a .296/.360/.437 line in 38 games for Springfield. That's up from his .236/.310/.318 production at Double-A Bowie a seaosn ago.

California League
A.J. Reed, Lancaster
(.440/.517/.760, 6 G, 11-for-25, 2 2B, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB, 6 K)
Given the amount of Astros prospects in the news lately, it shouldn't be a surprise to see another one pop up somewhere on this list. Given the amount of Lancaster JetHawks to win Offensive Player of the Week this season, this should almost be a foregone conclusion. Reed becomes the fourth JetHawks slugger to win this Cal League honor in the last five weeks, a stretch he started with his award-winning week from May 4-10. The 2014 Golden Spikes Award winner sits second in the Cal League in slugging (.590), OPS (.997) and RBIs (50) in the first 54 games of his first full season in the Minors.

Carolina League
Nellie Rodriguez, Lynchburg
(.529/.579/1.118, 5 G, 9-for-17, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 5 R, 1 BB, 5 K)
Rodriguez, a 2012 15th-round pick out of New York City, jumped onto radars by slugging 22 homers and producing an .832 OPS for Class A Lake County in his first full season a year ago. That production didn't quite show up with Class A Advanced Lynchburg in the early going -- he was hitting .220 as late as May 19 -- but now it's all coming together for the 20-year-old first baseman. Following his breakout week, he's tied for third in the circuit with eight homers and sits third in slugging (.503) and fifth in OPS (.860).

Florida State League
Tyler Hanover, Lakeland
(.389/.476/.722, 5 G, 7-for-18, 3 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K)
Hanover, who has played at third, shortstop, second base and left field this season, hasn't been much more than a depth option for the Flying Tigers in 2015. He ranks 10th on the team with only 68 at-bats. Last week though, he made the most of his chances in five starts. His homer Thursday was his first since Aug. 13 last season with Lakeland. Hanover is hitting .279/.363/.412 with a homer, six doubles and nine RBIs in 22 games this campaign.

Midwest League
Trent Gilbert, Beloit
(.444/.464/.741, 6 G, 12-for-27, 5 2B, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 8 R, 1 BB, 4 K)
Eight hits in three games to start the week? Yeah, that'll help you get a Player of the Week award before the weekend even gets going. Gilbert went 3-for-5 on both Monday and Wednesday (with five RBIs in the former contest for good measure) and then added a 2-for-4 game with a homer Thursday. The 2014 15th-rounder out of Arizona leads Beloit with a .312 average, good for 11th in the Midwest League.

South Atlantic League
Wuilmer Becerra, Savannah
(.429/.467/.857, 7 G, 12-for-28, 6 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 7 R, 1 BB, 6 K)
You might know Becerra as the youngest player involved in the deal that sent R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays and Travis d'Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard to the Mets. Indeed, he's the only player left from the seven-player deal who's yet to make his Major League debut. Although he's years away from that happening, the Venezuela native showed last week why he's capable of making the Majors someday. The Mets' No. 27 prospect is hitting .292 in his full-season debut and has shown some decent pop with seven homers and a .513 slugging percentage through 53 games.
