Smokies-Barons Series Finale Cancelled
The Tennessee Smokies' scheduled contest against the Birmingham Barons on Wednesday afternoon has been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions resulting from a malfunction of Smokies Stadium's sprinkler system. The game will not be made up since both teams are not scheduled to play against each other during the remaining first half of the Southern League campaign.
Overnight Tuesday, the Smokies' sprinkler system malfunctioned, causing parts of the field to take on water. Following several attempts by the Smokies' grounds crew to repair the field throughout the day Wednesday, a decision was made by personnel from both clubs to not play the game.
Fans with ticket's for this afternoon's scheduled contest may redeem their tickets at the Smokies Ticket Office for any remaining 2015 Smokies home game. The club's full rainout policy can be found online at www.smokiesbaseball.com.
Tennessee now hits the road for a five-game series against the Jacksonville Suns, the Double-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, with the series opener set for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.
The Smokies will then return to Smokies Stadium for a five-game series against the Mississippi Braves, the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:05 p.m. As part of that five-game homestand, Tennessee will also play in their first ever nationally televised contest on Thursday, June 18 on CBS Sports Network. As part of a special offer, fans who purchase a 12 or 30-pack ticket voucher plan will receive two free tickets to that evening's contest, while purchasers of a six-pack voucher plan will receive one free ticket to that evening's contest.
