Numata Delivers Go-Ahead in 2-1 Win in 11
BRADENTON, Fla. - For the second-straight night, the Clearwater Threshers and Bradenton Marauders found themselves deadlocked in extra innings.
This time, it was the Threshers who emerged on top, squeaking past Bradenton with a 2-1 victory in 11 innings at McKechnie Field on Wednesday night.
Chase Numata came through with the go-ahead hit, delivering a two-out RBI single through the left side to plate Dylan Cozens in the top of the 11th. Numata has come up big for Clearwater on back-to-back nights, having tied the game with a clutch two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning on Tuesday.
Edubray Ramos (3-4) earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief. Ramos worked around a pair of baserunner to finish off the victory in the bottom of the 11th.
Colin Kleven did not factor in the decision, but delivered another quality outing in the start.
For the second-straight outing, Kleven gave the Threshers seven innings of one-run ball. He permitted six hits and two walks while recording four strikeouts, and the lone run against him was unearned.
The Threshers right-hander has not permitted more than three runs in an outing since his first start of the season on April 13. Kleven lowered his ERA to 3.00.
Clearwater threatened in each of the first two innings against Bradenton's Steven Brault, putting the first two men on in both frames.
In the second, Harold Martinez led off with a double to deep left-center, and Numata worked a walk. Both runners advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch with one out, but Brault induced a roller off the bat of Mitch Walding with the infield drawn in, and Drew Stankieiwicz grounded to short to end the inning.
Down 1-0, the Threshers bounced back to tie it in the eighth.
Stankiewicz got it going by ripping a double to center. Chase Harris advanced him to third by laying down a sacrifice bunt. Andrew Pullin then lifted a fly ball deep enough to left to allow Stankieiwcz to tag and score from third on the sac fly, knotting the game up at one.
Clearwater will go for the series win in the finale of the four-game set on Thursday, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. at McKechnie Field.
