Zimmer, Rodriguez among Carolina All-Stars

P-Nats skipper Keister to lead league's best in clash with Cal League
June 11, 2015

Indians No. 3 prospect Bradley Zimmer and fellow Lynchburg slugger Luigi Rodriguez will highlight the Carolina League All-Stars when the team travels to Rancho Cucamonga on June 23 for the 2015 California-Carolina League All-Star Game.

Both prospects were voted as starters for the Carolina League squad, which was revealed by the league on Thursday afternoon. The club will be led by Potomac Nationals manager Tripp Keister in taking on the best of the Class A Advanced California League at LoanMart Field in two weeks.

Zimmer, the Indians' No. 1 pick in last year's Draft, is batting .309 with nine homers, 25 RBIs and a league-leading 25 stolen bases in 57 games for the Hillcats, who are also sending Rodriguez, a 22-year-old left-handed outfielder who is tied with Zimmer for the Carolina League lead in homers. Rodriguez is hitting .280 with 30 RBIs and 13 steals. Mark Zagunis, the Cubs' third-round pick last summer, will be the third starting outfielder -- the 22-year-old is hitting .305 with three homers, 24 RBIs and seven steals.

Around the infield, Potomac's Spencer Kieboom will start behind the plate, with Salem's Sam Travis at first, Wilmington's Ramon Torres at second, Carolina's Johan Camargo at shortstop and Winston-Salem's Trey Michalczewski at third. Michalczewski ranks second in the league with 37 RBIs and is tied for third in homers with six, while Travis' 31 RBIs rank seventh in the league. Lynchburg first baseman Nellie Rodriguez, who was also selected to the team, leads the league with 45 RBIs and is tied for second with eight homers

All-Star pitchers include Winston-Salem's Matt Heidenreich, who leads the circuit with seven wins; Frederick's Mitch Horacek, who tops the league with 76 RBIs; and Wilmington's Cody Reed, a Royals southpaw whose 1.29 ERA is the lowest in the league among active Carolina League hurlers.

The league said the game's starting pitcher will be determined later based on rest. The full roster is below.

Tickets for the All-Star Game include entry into Fan Fest and the Home Run Derby, starting at 3:30 p.m. PT, before first pitch at 7:35 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit rcquakes.com/allstargame or call the Quakes at 909-481-5000.
